Description

Learn how to design a complete parametric freeform glass dome in Autodesk Inventor, from the first master geometry to detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
In this practical, project-based course, you will build a complete spiral glass dome step by step using professional CAD modeling techniques and a structured parametric workflow.
You will begin by setting up the Autodesk Inventor project and creating the master geometry that controls the overall shape of the dome. From there, you will develop the master skeleton and reference levels that form the basis for the complete design.
You will then create curved spiral mullions and horizontal transoms, pattern structural members around the dome, and develop the connections between the individual components. You will learn how to organize the model so that repeated elements remain consistent and easy to modify.
After completing the supporting structure, you will model the glass panels, define glass thicknesses, gaps and edge clearances, and adapt the glazing to the curved freeform geometry.
The course also covers custom sheet metal components, including base flashing, top-ring covers, edge details and flat patterns for fabrication.
Finally, you will assemble the complete glass dome, add connection parts and fasteners, manage assembly constraints, and prepare professional technical documentation. You will create part and assembly drawings, sections, detail views, dimensions, BOMs, parts lists, balloons, fabrication drawings and installation drawings.
By the end of the course, you will understand how to plan, model, organize and document a complex parametric facade structure in Autodesk Inventor. The workflow can also be applied to other architectural, facade and engineering projects involving curved geometry, repeated structural elements and custom fabrication details.
This course is designed for Autodesk Inventor users who want to move beyond basic part modeling and develop a practical workflow for real-world parametric facade design.
