Description
In this course you will learn the classic style of Melodic 5-String Banjo that was first introduced to the world of Bluegrass music in 1963 by Bill Keith. It has been developed and used by many other Bluegrass Banjo innovators such as Tony Trischka, Alan Munde, Bela Fleck, Bobby Thompson and many others. This course is geared for anyone that already plays Scruggs Style Banjo and wants to add these new tools and techniques into their style in order to have more ways to express linear melodies such as fiddle tunes or classical music. In this you will learn the basic melodic G scale so you understand the basic techniques of melodic style banjo. You will learn fiddle tunes such as Boil Them Cabbage Down, Whiskey Before Breakfast, Dixie Hoedown, Cripple Creek, Boston Boyand June Apple. You will also learn how to use the Melodic scales to create solos or improvise over simple Bluegrass chord progressions such as Hard Aint it Hard and other 3 chord tunes. I will teach you how to play basic melodic phrases over G, C and D chords so you can create your own melodic licks. You will learn how to play multiple patterns with the melodic Scale so you can understand how to practice the scale and know how to improvise. I will demonstrate the modes of the G scale so you will understand how to start the scales on different scale degrees and how they function over chord progressions. You will also learn how to play melodic scales in the keys of C and D major in order to play tunes and songs in different keys. The melodic style should serve as a tool to develop your own creativity so you can build more interesting solos and give you more fun and exciting ways to express your musical ideas on your Banjo. Have fun and keep on picking!
