His guiding principle was "Karate ni sente nashi," meaning that in Karate there is no first attack. Later, he established the style known as Shotokan, which was named after his pen name "Shoto." He placed great importance on discipline, respect, and the development of character.Through his teachings, Funakoshi inspired countless students and made Karate accessible to people beyond Okinawa. He remained devoted to spreading Karate until his death in 1957, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence martial artists around the world.
