Run sourcing, value analysis, inventory and recall response with AI agents — safely, from react to orchestrate
What you'll learn
Score every supply chain function on the FISCO maturity ladder and name the change that moves it up a rung
Decide which healthcare supply chain decisions an AI agent may own, which it may recommend, and which stay human
Design an evidence-synthesis agent that supports a value analysis team without overriding clinical judgement
Build a replenishment agent that respects clinical criticality, expiry and lead time variance rather than cost alone
Run a product recall from regulator notice to bedside using unique device identifiers and an agent-driven trace
Score supplier and n-tier disruption risk, and set the line where automated action stops and a person decides
Calculate total cost of ownership for devices and capital assets instead of comparing acquisition prices
Clean an item master to the standard that automated ordering and health-record integration actually require
Choose between national GPO, regional coalition, distributor, third-party logistics and in-house by category
Build the KPI set and the cost-savings versus cost-avoidance case that gets an agent programme funded
Set governance, audit trails and kill-switch rules for agents operating close to patient care
Deliver a 90-day plan that ships one working agent against one real supply chain function
Requirements
No coding needed. This is a decision-maker's course, not a programming course.
Some familiarity with how a hospital, clinic or health system buys and stores supplies helps, but is not required.
General awareness of what AI assistants do. No machine learning or data science background is expected.
A spreadsheet tool if you want to work along with the total cost of ownership and maturity-scoring exercises.
Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
AI is used to reframe the words, fixing spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes and audio conversion.
Your hospital just cut the unit price on a surgical supply by eleven percent, and supply expense per discharge went up anyway. If you have watched that happen, this course is for you. Healthcare supply chain is not retail supply chain with different products. A surgeon chooses the implant and the finance office pays for it. A single hospital carries thirty to forty thousand active SKUs, of which only a fraction ever sit on site. A stockout does not mean a lost sale, it means a cancelled procedure. And every year now somebody proposes AI as the answer without saying which decision it is actually going to make.
This course answers that question function by function. It is built on the FISCO maturity framework — seventeen supply chain functions scored from react through anticipate, integrate and collaborate to orchestrate — and for each one we ask the same thing: what does an AI agent genuinely do here, what must it hand back to a clinician, and what breaks when a recall or a shortage arrives. You will design four agents in full detail: an evidence-synthesis agent that prepares packets for a value analysis team, a replenishment agent that understands clinical criticality rather than cost alone, an n-tier disruption-watch agent, and an item master hygiene agent that quietly makes the other three possible. You will run a Class I recall end to end using unique device identifiers, build a total cost of ownership model for intensive care ventilators and an MRI scanner, work the Kraljic grid across a real spend file, and write the decision-rights map that says exactly which calls an agent is allowed to make near a patient.
Every concept is anchored in a specific role and a real number, with one global example in dollars and one Indian example in rupees, so it lands wherever you work. The cases are drawn from a nine-hospital US integrated delivery network, a four-hospital group in Chennai and Bengaluru, and a 220-bed community hospital — plus public industry events including the pandemic protective equipment shortage, the intravenous bag crisis after Hurricane Maria, and the arrival of drug-eluting stents. I have spent twenty years running automation and process redesign in supply chains, and I teach the way I wish I had been taught: what actually breaks, how to recover, and the exact steps I would take. Where an agent should not be trusted, I say so plainly.
By the end you will have scored your own organisation, chosen one function worth fixing, and written a 90-day plan to ship one working agent against it. Enroll and start with Section 1.
