They are the ones responsible for developing tools to ease the implementation, tracking and execution of automated scenarios. These scenarios can be part of the Front-End (UI) or Backend (REST API, GraphQL, SQL, DBs, Data, etc...) automation efforts. Currently, there is a shortage of SDETs specializing in Backend automation. Most of them spend their time on Front-End automation using technologies such as Selenium, WebDriver or Cypress.
