Whether you are new to fashion design and would like to expand your knowledge and skills, or an experienced designer looking to work with a new material you will learn how to make fashion with leather from a leather fashion designer!
Approach leather as a material for any of your fashion design projects! This class will get you started with understanding how to handle leather in sewing and employing some essential design principles. Practice sewing and applying various decorative techniques and manipulations that can be later applied to any type of leather garment or accessory that you wish to design!
Continue learning leather design in my other classes that expand on these design principles and show you how to incorporate them into garments and accessories.
Students must have basic sewing knowledge and access to a regular home sewing machine.

Once you have an idea of where to start, you will feel more confident in exploring the possibilities of working with leather and experimenting on your own.
In this class you will learn:
How to approach leather as a fashion material with intent to design.
How to sew leather with a regular home sewing machine.
Tools needed for leather design and how to use them.
A variety of techniques and manipulation methods: Painting on leather - using acrylic paint. Appliqué - creating a leather patch that is sewn on top of another piece of leather. Inlay - creating a cut-out design that is stitched behind another piece of leather. Trapunto - creating a raised design beneath a layer of leather. Quilting - using stitching as a way to create a soft 3D design. "Slash & Turn" - slicing, turning and stitching the leather to create a cool 3D textured design. Making a leather tassel - a fun accessory for extra embellishment.
