Description
Infertility is more than a medical journey. It can become an emotional marathon of waiting, hoping, grieving and trying to remain strong while life appears to move forward around you.The Soulful Path: Navigating Infertility, Loss and Hope is a compassionate, science-informed mindfulness course for individuals and couples experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, fertility treatment or the uncertainty of trying to conceive.
Created and guided by Dora-lee Matodes, who has personally walked the difficult path of infertility, this course offers something that medical appointments do not always provide: a safe space in which your emotions are acknowledged, your grief is validated and your mental wellbeing matters.
Why does stress matter during the fertility journey?
Infertility itself can create significant psychological distress. The repeated cycle of appointments, medical procedures, financial pressure, pregnancy announcements, negative tests and uncertain outcomes may keep the nervous system on high alert.
In this course, you will explore how chronic stress activates the HPA axis (the body's stress-response system) and how it communicates with the HPG axis, which helps regulate reproductive function. You will also learn about cortisol, progesterone and prolactin, and how prolonged stress may interact with hormonal signalling, sleep, relationships and emotional wellbeing.
This doesnot mean that stress caused your infertility. You cannot simply "relax your way" into pregnancy, and you are never to blame for a treatment outcome. The purpose of fertility mindfulness is to help you care for your mental health, regulate your nervous system and become more emotionally resilient while navigating circumstances that may remain outside your control.
Research offers an encouraging premise for mind–body support. In a well-known study led by Dr Alice Domar, 55% of participants in a cognitive-behavioural mind–body group achieved a viable pregnancy during one year of follow-up, compared with 20% receiving routine care. While this finding does not guarantee conception (and research into stress and fertility outcomes remains mixed) it highlights the potential value of structured psychological and mind–body support alongside appropriate medical care.
Throughout this course, you will learn how to
- Use 4-4-6 breathing as a practical anchor during fertility appointments, treatment and emotionally overwhelming moments.
- Practise body scan meditation to release tension and rebuild trust in a body that may feel medicalised, disappointing or "broken."
- Navigate IVF, IUI, embryo transfer and the two-week wait with Worry Windows, present-moment awareness and fertility-anxiety tools.
- Process infertility grief, miscarriage, shame, jealousy, isolation and uncertainty with mindfulness, self-compassion and guided journaling.
- Understand the experiences of primary infertility, secondary infertility, unexplained infertility, PCOS, endometriosis and male-factor infertility.
- Strengthen partner connection through compassionate communication and the Shared Breath meditation.
- Separate your identity and self-worth from a fertility diagnosis using cognitive reframing and the "Self as Context" approach.
- Practise radical acceptance and body gratitude without abandoning hope or minimising your pain.
- Set healthier boundaries around triggering conversations, pregnancy announcements and social media comparison.
- Create a sustainable 30-day fertility mindfulness practice for continued emotional support and resilience.
This course includes guided fertility meditations, breathing exercises, reflective journaling activities, cognitive-reframing tools and a 30-Day Mindfulness for Fertility Tracker.
