Understand how modern Advanced Driver Assistance Systems perceive the environment, interpret driving situations and support the driver through controlled vehicle actions.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems combine sensors, electronics, software, vehicle dynamics and control functions into highly integrated automotive systems. This course provides a structured introduction to the fundamental technologies and engineering principles behind modern ADAS.
We begin with the role of ADAS in the modern vehicle and establish the fundamental relationship between sensing, perception, decision-making and vehicle-level functions. You will learn how driver-assistance systems interact with the vehicle and why understanding the complete functional chain is essential.
The course then introduces the major sensor technologies used in ADAS. We examine cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and LiDAR from an engineering perspective, including their fundamental operating principles, capabilities and limitations. Rather than treating one sensor technology as universally superior, the course explains why different sensing principles provide different types of information about the driving environment.
We then explore how sensor information is transformed into an understanding of the environment. Topics include object detection, lane and road information, sensor data processing and the fundamental role of sensor fusion.
