PathWave Advanced Design System (ADS) is an electronic design automation platform for engineers designing high-frequency and high-speed digital systems, ranging from individual amplifiers to complex RF modules and high-speed digital boards. It combines circuit, electromagnetic, electrothermal, high-speed digital, photonic, quantum, and power electronics simulation capabilities within an integrated design environment.
ADS provides schematic capture, layout, verification, circuit simulation, and electromagnetic analysis tools in one application. Its unified workflow allows engineers to characterize and optimize designs without repeatedly moving between separate design environments.
The platform also includes Python automation, GPU-assisted simulation capabilities, Design Cloud integration, and an MCP server for connecting compatible AI agents with ADS design-environment APIs.


Software Overview

PathWave Advanced Design System (ADS) supports design and analysis workflows covering RF, microwave, high-speed digital, and electronic systems. Circuit simulations can operate in frequency and time domains, while electromagnetic tools provide analysis of physical structures and layouts.
The design environment includes schematic, layout, symbol, and PCB editing capabilities, together with verification and automation features. Native bondwires, enhanced unit conversion handling, expanded Python APIs, configurable parameter precision, and updated OpenAccess support extend the design workflow.
ADS 2027 also introduces an ADS MCP Server that allows external AI agents to connect to an active ADS session, execute Python code, and retrieve ADS documentation through a standardized Model Context Protocol interface. Additional MCP functionality is available in SIPro/PIPro for selected signal and power integrity workflows.
