This installer is exactly the assembly tools from Microsoft (that is, this is all that is needed to build projects, but without a development environment, without an IDE). If you need a development environment, then install this If you only need a C ++ compiler, then you can limit yourself to a more compact distribution instead of this distribution
More specifically, unlike the full studio, this installer does not include a graphical interface (IDE) as part of the components and, accordingly, you cannot install a visual development environment through the BuildTools edition.

Through such a limitation, an attempt is made to reduce the weight of the installer and reduce the size and impact on Windows. BuildTools does not provide any additional features (i.e. it's like "toolchain from small-soft ones" ... it seems to me that this modification should be called so that everything was clear at once ... but they called the edition like that).

Installation:
• Disconnect from the Internet (if you do not want pale telemetry)
• If the installer does not have access to the Internet, then install the certificates for the installer's self-diagnosis by running Certificates_Setup.cmd ON BEHALF OF THE ADMINISTRATOR
• Then run Setup_BuildTools.cmd , where X specifies the version number you want to install (i.e. 17.1.X)

Hard disk space: from 1 GB to 22 GB, depending from installed components, for best speed, it is recommended to install a
1.8+GHz processor on an SSD, 4+ cores are recommended
Minimum 2GB of memory (2.5GB in a container), 8GB recommended

If the installer asks you to download some components, or if there are any other problems with the installer (including suspected viruses) ... try rehashing this distribution or run an installer integrity check by running Check_Files.cmd .
