History of Loughead/Lockheed from the very beginning to '72/'73. Similar to other Ingells-authored works, the book title focuses on the "biggest" plane made by the company but the actual content covers a very wide range of aeroplanes, and touches on the missiles, helicopters, submarines, and spacecraft built by Lockheed since the beginning in the 1920s to 1973, with the then lastest product, the L-1011 Tristar. There is some info on the manufacturers of the engines powering the various planes; with special attention to the situation at Rolls-Royce which had financial and political problems that affected Lockheed and the L-1011. The author also describes the factories the planes were made in. No story about Lockheed would be complete without a few SR-71 photos and text; this book also provides information on the U-2 (airplane, not rock band) and A-12, rocket planes, and the "parasite" Goblin, an experiment in carrying a small fighter plane on a huge bomber.
