In this deeply personal and historically significant memoir, Pridi Banomyong, former regent and prime minister of Siam (Thailand), takes readers on a journey through one of the most turbulent periods in modern Southeast Asian history. Forced into exile in the People's Republic of China, Pridi reflects on his life's work as a democratic leader, his involvement in the 1932 Siamese Revolution, and his experiences with key figures such as Mussolini, Emperor Hirohito and Mao Zedong. This memoir offers a unique perspective on the geopolitical landscape of Southeast Asia during the mid-twentieth century, the challenges of leading a nation through war and conflict, and the personal sacrifices of a life dedicated to the pursuit of democracy and justice.
